Schaumburg’s 2015 Holiday Party

 I was graciously invited to the Schaumburg Township’s 2015 Holiday Party for Senior citizens and people with Disabilities. 

 It started snowing last night so the next morning when I was getting ready to go to the party there were still flakes of snow coming down. 

The party was held at a restaurant on the golf course. The party started at 11am. As I pulled into the Golf course, I saw how beautiful it was covered in a blanket of white. 

 I pulled up to the entrance and parked my car. I looked around at all the snow covering the golf course.

  When I walked in the girls crossed off my name on the list and I found my table where my Disability Group “Able 2 Meet” were sitting.

There was a girl with a violin going table to table playing holiday music. 

  These are the people and the sponsors that put on the Christmas party. I noticed that it said Holiday party instead of Christmas party, hmm.

I wanted to take some more pictures so I got up and went to the back of the Dinning hall that over looked the Golf course. It looked beautiful.

 

 It was time to eat. The brought us a bowel of cream of celery soup and a plate with a chicken breast and mashed potatoes followed up with a chocolate mouse cup. 

  I was hoping the Conant High School Choir would show up and I wasn't disappointed. The girls sang beautifully.

After they sang Christmas songs, we left. On the way out, I saw some trees on the Golf course. I just had to get a picture of them. It was a pleasant day and I even got a nap in when I got home. 

Happy Veterans Day

 

  I got this email yesterday from the Grand Victoria Casino saying that if I was a veteran that they would give me a complimentary Burger at their PRIME Burgerhouse today. I had planned on staying home but I couldn’t turn down a free meal so I went.

 When I got to the casino around noon, I played a little craps. It was a $5 table and I took it easy. It was fun. I had won +$41 and I was getting hungry.  With the gas prices at $2.09 here, that would fill up my tank twice so I was happy with what I won. The table was getting too crowded any way and that’s a recipe for disaster, at least in my case it is.

 After I left the table, I went to the PRIME burgerhouse. In the email it said that I had to bring proof that I was a veteran. So I printed out a copy of my DD214 and brought it with me. I told the girl at the restaurant about the email I got. She asked me for something that would tell I was a veteran. I pulled out my service record and she just glanced at it and seated me right away. I ordered this burger; here I’ll show it to you.

 I haven’t had a burger in years. This burger was fantastic, I mean it was really good and the fries were awesome. I was stuffed when I got through. I guess I blew the diet that I was on but I was glad that everything turned out right for me this Veterans Day.

Halloween

    I slept in this Saturday morning and then just took it easy watching TV. They had a Drawing at 4pm at the casino so I thought I would go see if I could win that thing a second time. I ran a bath and sat in it relaxing. All of a sudden someone kept knocking at my door, Really loud. “WTF,” I said to myself. I hurried up and got out of the bath tub and ran to the door. I didn’t even put anything on “Who is it,” I asked. No one answered. I was just about to open the door and stick my head out to see what the hell was going on. But I remembered I had a peep hole in my door so I looked through it and saw these two kids at my door. “OH CRAP. I forgot its Halloween. Damn.” I could have opened the door and told them I was dressed as a Nudist. That would have scared them but I don’t think that would have gone over to big with their parents or the local authorities. So I ignored those pestie little critters and went back and sat in my nice warm bath tub for a little while longer.  I had to get out of this apartment before more of them came crawling around my door so I got dressed and went to the casino. I didn’t win the drawing but after 5 and half hours later, I walked out with a total win of +$15.

I was going through my old pictures and I found one of Mom when she was a little girl. On the bottom right hand corner of the photo it says the photographer was  “Hartsook Photo” SF – LA   ( San Francisco – Los Angeles )

 So just for kicks I thought, I would see if I could find him on the internet. I found him on Wikipedia.

Mom was born in Chicago Illinois in 1917 so that would be about the right time the photo was taken. My question is; "What was Mom doing in California at that time at her age?” Questions, Questions and nobody to ask.

Those are the Republican candidates for President in 2016. That's a lot. 

I am still undecided. I really don't find any of them that interest me. But I have crossed a few off my list.

Trump, I can't see him as president. he' too gruff. Oh he wants to be president alright as long as he is on top of the polls.
but that's not going to last and he will end up dropping out. He is entertaining though, I'll give him that much.

Ben Carson, He is a nice enough person but has no experience in governing. It took him his whole life to become a brilliant surgeon. What makes him think that he is qualified to be president? He doesn't have the experience. Just like Obama who never had any experience and look what happen to this country because of him.

Rand Paul, I don't agree with his foreign policies. 

So those are the three that I have crossed off my list so far. I have to watch the Debates and maybe someone will stick out in my mind but so far I don't see anybody in the running that I care for.

Schaumburg Township Disability Picnic

  The Schaumburg Township Disability Services had their 30^th annual picnic today.  The theme this year was Star Wars. Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi were there and would take breaks from their battle if you wanted to have your picture taken with them. 

  Brookfield Zoo brought out a few animals. The first little guy was this turtle. The girl from the zoo said I could touch his shell. When I did, I don’t think he was so sure about my intentions and his head went into his shell for a second. He reminded me of a turtle I once had when I was 6 years old. One day my cousin came over and after I showed him my turtle he asked me if he could take it home with him for a couple of days. I was dumb enough back then and agreed to let him. A few days went by and when I asked him for my turtle back he said, “Oh, I put him in my pocket and forgot about him. He’s dead.” A lesson learned on loaning things out. Yeah, I still remember that.

   The other Zoo girl had a Guinea pig in her hand. It was a cute little thing but it was shedding so much that hair was flying all over. Even though they kept the animals in the shade and sprayed them with a mist of water from time to time, it was still hot out and in the mid 80’s.

   Another cool animal was an Owl. Her eyes were so big. The girl got the Owl out of the cage so we could get a better look at her.

   It was time to eat and the Chicken fingers, baked beans and potato chips I had were good. They had other things but that’s what I had.

   Afterwards they had Ice Cream. It was just what I needed to keep cool, although they did have several big fans blowing into the inside of the tent. 

   They had Bingo afterwards but I didn’t stay for that.
